People Pleaser

People pleasing is when
you try to please people
with yourself.

Loving people is when
you try to please people
with themselves.

Counterfeit

You don't need to be a hero or a villain to wear a mask.

What has happened here,
that people feel that they need
to wear a mask to be accepted.

At what point did people,
feel it necessary to smile with
their teeth and not their eyes.

Who gave the word, that
we cannot be fully ourselves
every single second of the day.

I don't know how it is enforced
that we maintain proper impressions.
But I do know, a revolution is in order.

Hero

I call every week just to
remind him that I care.

When every week, I mean to tell him
that he is my hero, that I respect him
more than anyone I've ever met.

Yet, every week I chicken out because
I fear he'll think that I'm only telling him
because he's old and near his 'best before date'.

It's now that time of the week.
Today will be different.

Blast from the Past

Having just discovered
a forgotten blog from when I was 15.
I'll share some of the lines with you here.

Some questionnaire answers;
"How old do you feel = 15
hair color = i've decided its raven
Do you have any pets = dunno havn't checked in a while , its a definate mayb
What do you want to be when you grow up = historically famous scientist/inventor/discoverer"

Some original quotations;
"We have discovered everything, except how to live."
"Get lost outside the box."
"Love isn't meant to be complicated."

My sign off;
"anyway thats the end of possibly the lamest blog ever..
i'll add this rather cool sloth to make it less lame... Cool HUH?!"

Resigned Fate

Even I should not be above the law
I set for myself.

Faced with an undesirable situation,
One might accept, "I can't change this."
Instead of questioning, "How can I change this?"

In this way,
our dreams cannot be constrained
by simply the laziness of thought.

We needn't presume our fate,
for that would be playing God.

Eeyore

He wasn't a bad chap,
But certainly a sad one.

Colour was sapped from his eyes
Unconditional pessimism was all he saw.
Inside himself, he was losing himself.

I like to think, that after the books were written
He started to take himself less seriously,
Asking other animals how they were,
offering them help, and maybe even
He'd throw them a smile.

"Angels can fly because they take themselves lightly" - G.K. Chesterton

Direction

Anyone can go anywhere.
simply take the cards that life dealt them,
acquiescently ambling by,
minimizing pain.

But. "Somewhere is better than anywhere."
and it takes Someone,
to decide exactly where
Somewhere is.

Cake

Memories of a 7 year-old.
After Jonathan's Birthday dinner
there was a tense silence,
before the exuberant birthday song began.

3 Layers of Chocolate cake arrived,
topped with 8 candles and 24 cherries.
Smile, Blow, Wish and cutting it began!

"I bet I can eat more cake faster than you!"
I shouted to Jonathan, wide eyed and excited.
"Not if I can help it!" he replied.

We soon found out that I could in fact eat
more cake faster than Jonathan.
We also soon found out that I could un-eat the cake
and my dinner, even faster than that.

Pottery Barn

It seems that once you've committed
a series of eight friday nights, to attend
a very expensive set of lessons, learning
to sculpt tiny, useless, ornamental pots.

You've run out of ideas.

Treasure Hunt

Lessons from my father
In every conversation,
try to discover what makes
that person unique, different
to everyone else in the whole world.

Get inside their head, their emotions.
What do they feel and why do they act?
Life is just as much about reactions
as action.

To discover someone
is to love them,
to find them,
in the dark.

Label

I always thought it was ironic
how some guys started wearing eye-liner
listening to death metal and loving black
to display how they wouldn't be labeled,
put in a box like the rest of society,
but in doing so, they created their own label,
they're own box. emo, goth, greebo, metal head.
Becoming a market to be targetted,
with their own magazines, clothing, music channel.
I guess
You can never fully escape the labels society gives you.
You can only escape the labels you put on yourself.

Isaac the Frog

Isaac was a frog.
a slightly frustrated frog
because he longed sooo much to
become closer to everyone he knew.
This meant that Isaac,
was a very happy frog.

Freedom

It's not like other gifts,
It doesn't come
in a box.

Runner

Feelings of Importance
Sainsbury's security guard by night.
'The Flash' sprinter he was by day.

Running 10 miles every day
200 meters in 20 seconds, no, 19 seconds!
he said.

(judging by his belly),
"no your dreaming" she said.

Fastest in the country,
ever since he was one years old, winning every race
he said.

(judging by his wild claims)
"thats impossible" she said.

Almost competed in the olympics for Jamaica,
if it weren't for his bad ankle, he'd be faster than usain bolt,
he said.

(judging by his need for self importance)
"wow thats amazing" she said.

Resonating

Music. just,
Sound waves vibrating at various frequencies.

Why does it sound beautiful to us.
Who decides that it can move us.
Where did it get this power over us from.
What is being communicated from its conception.

Music. just,
Sound waves vibrating at various frequencies. Or
Are there deeper forces at work here

Starving

How often do we feed the physical
need for food in our friends and family.
And yet neglect to feed them with the
genuine appreciation they are starving for.

"Twice I did good and that I heard never,
Once I did bad but that I heard ever"
- Unknown

Socially Acceptable

I miss the days
when it was perfectly acceptable
to camp out in the lounge over night,
playing 'worms' in sleeping bags.
Painting each other in fluorescent paint
munching on the 'midnight feast',
the one we'd been talking all day about.
Watching cartoons and wrestling
until two in the morning and then giggle
until too tired to talk anymore.

Year of the Dragon

Completing Spyro - Year of the Dragon
to 117% felt sooo good,
knowing that some suckers
stopped when they reached 100%.

Investigation

I had been called many names before,
silly, clever, crazy and the occasional racist joke.
But none with such weight than the one uttered
by a four year old boy, just walking past.

"Mummy, do you think I'll ever be as tall as that man?"

Have no doubt.
This allegation is being looked into.

Poo

Walking Pebbles and Topsy
he breathes in the fresh air,
Sound only of the wind in the grass
Alone, with his dogs and his thoughts.

Topsy, hearing natures call,
'Strangles a brown snake'
on a clean patch of path.
Seeing this, he reaches for a bag
and cleans up the mess.

He likes to think to himself,
It's not because of the sign warning of a penalty
Or because of what anyone else might think.
But because he genuinely loves making the world
a better place.

After-Life

Memories of a seven year old.

Me: "Mark, what do you think happens to us when we die?"

Mark: "Dunno, I think we come back as space aliens."

Me: "Wow."
"Mark, what colour are space aliens?"

Mark: "Purple."

Tension

Work/Social
Triumph/Disaster
Sovereignty/Responsibility
Trust Everybody/Trust No one
Cost/Benefit
Recovering/Growing
Sane/Bonkers

Hold Everything in Tension
If one string is loose,
or another rigid,
You know something isn't right.

Waiting for the One

She will meet a boy.

Who will be blown away,
at first sight.

Who will ask her to coffee,
and comment on her hair.

Who will think about her,
when she is there, and when she is not.

Who will wear perfume for her,
and make her feel like the only one in the world.

Who will slide a ring onto her finger,
vowing to always be hers.

Who will feel pain with her her,
clenching her hand so tight as if they were one.

Who will laugh uncontrollably with her,
sharing every part of life, big and small.

Vigilante

In the wee small hours,
whilst the world is tucked in bed
around a doorway,
he pokes his head.

Sneaks into the kitchen
mischievous and wide-eyed
cleaning up your dishes
whilst in bed, you reside.

He thinks to himself
(with the most insane grin)
The washing-up ninja,
has struck once again!

How It Is

Let us try to comprehend the incomprehensible
and find that it was incomprehensible after all.

I can't Imagine

The smell of anti-bacterial,
the squeak of shoes on the clinical floor,
trying to swallow nothing.

The clenching of the chest,
his lips in slow motion silently break the news,
she's not going to make it.

The inability to cry, not yet.
the encroaching vacuum of colour,
you must remember how to breathe.

I am so fortunate.

Ice Lolly

The sheer stature of the man,
almost makes you implode
under the pressure of his presence.
CEO. One wrong move and
he'd shatter your dreams in an instant.

Yet there are times,
on a hot summers afternoon,
when this million pound man
will sit and lick a 'nobbly bobbly' ice lolly,
licking the melted drippings from his fingers.
