Chore

Sacrifice does not have to be
a chore.

It can actually be one of
the funnest things
you'll ever do.

The Secret

The day you were born, you
were endowed with nothing,
if not pure potential.
The secret is that,

every day of your life
represents nothing,
if not the opportunity
to use that potential
however you choose.

But ultimately
how far you go
doesn't matter.
It's where you end up.

Moving Fast

Deciding
that she could be
the most important person
will have you
holding off the physical side
for those few important months.

Growing,
moving faster and deeper in knowledge
and love of each other, collecting those
sacred moments when your hearts
grow together first, while others,
too busy
moving fast to the bedroom,
wake up a couple years later
next to a half stranger.

Memories

Frank the yellow fish
had a short memory.
he loved the ocean,
swimming to new places
new corals, new friends.

At the end of every day,
he'd remind himself.

When these memory fade away,
make sure that they are replaced.

The End

At the end of their time,
No one will ever say:

"I wish I'd spent more time
shopping for shoes on eBay." or
"I'm glad I chose my friends
based on looks and popularity."

At the end of your time,
what will you say?

How Many Roads

The boy asked his father,
"Daddy, am I a man yet?"

His father looked at him,
and the replied.

"To be a man
is to be a producer,
not a consumer."

Thanks

Thanks for the moments,
the memories
we shared.

You've changed my life.

The Altar

Standing bare-foot
light dress flickering
in cool wind.
She waits.

Unaware of goosebumps
tight arms clutched
into her chest.
She waits.

Brown hair dancing
unable to rest,
waves waltz below.
She waits.

The pound of the heart,
that's bound by her body
swallowing air like a sword.
She waits.

Wise

I don't think a old wise man
would ever wish to re-do
his younger, more foolish days.

Because his wisdom came
from living, taking a risk
and learning.

Confession

Confessions
Even though I'm half oriental
I get asians mixed up all the time.

The other day
in a department store,
I noticed a mirror in store
and turned to check myself out.
When my reflection didn't move,
I realised it was just another asian guy
on the other side of glass.

Water Fight

Today, I had a water fight
with the kids in the park.

Obviously I won.
No one's a match for me and my kettle.

Record

Every year
there seems to be a new record set
for the latest over-sized tasty food.

When will it stop?
at this rate, by year 3000
how big will the record dish be?

Cloudy Days

I think in living in England
Teaches you to be happy
no matter the weather.

Because if you wait
for the sun to come out
to be enjoy yourself,

You can be waiting
for a looong time.

I Don't Know

I don't know if poetry moves you
if the words sink deep in your heart.
I don't know what music your into
or at school if you were smart.
I'd like to know you.

I don't know if you like animals
or what it is that makes you smile.
I don't know if you wake up early
or if you take hours to dress in style.
I'd like to know you.

I don't know your childhood friends
if you grew up happy or not so well.
I don't know if your heart is hurting
or which perfume is your favourite smell.
"I'd like to know you.
all the same.
If you want to
I am game."

Courage

Walking farther than ever before in his life,
Escaping multiple assassination attempts by ring wraiths,
Betrayed by Boromir, Traversing the dead marshes,
Almost eaten by Shelob the spider, Captured by orcs,
Led by Gollum, fighting inside an active volcano.
He'd come a long way.

Courage is not the absence of fear.
Courage is the acknowledgement,
that there are much greater things
at stake.

Together

Some people are dependent,
subject only to the opinions of others.

Some people are independent
subject only to an opinion of themselves.

and some people are interdependent,
subject only to a greater principle.

I Am

Sometimes, you describe most,
what you describe least.

Self-less, Give-more

If living
is giving,
I'm ready
I'm willing.

Scorecard

Would you rather be the most foolish person
but everyone thinks you're the wisest,

Or be the wisest person in the world
whilst everyone thinks you are foolish.

Mind the Gap

memories from a 7 year old
Being extremely ticklish in nature, and
during a hilarious tickle fight with Dan,
in the fray I received a knee to the face.
And out they came. Two front baby teeth.

After that, I strutted up to strangers,
busting out the biggest smile
just to freak them out with my gappy grin.

Boss

Insecurity is when self doubt
speaks up without us asking its opinion.
Worry is when fear
strikes out of turn.
Apathy is when laziness of thought
influences us without our permission.

Let 'em know who's boss.

Improvement

If God didn't want things to change
He wouldn't have invented time.

So, what are you waiting for?

Contrast

There are two great forces
that motivate men
towards every action.

1. Pride that only elevates self,
2. Fear that only shields self.

There are two great forces
that motivate great men
towards every action.

1. Humility that only elevates others,
2. Love that only saturates others.

Society

Follow these instructions and
your life will be full and happy.
1. Go to School
2. Go to University
3. Get a good job*
4. Marry a pretty girl
5. Get a nice house**
6. Rear well behaved kids
7. Save up for your pension
8. Retire early so that you can finally live how you want***

*The aim is to amass more than you'll ever need
**Because you need a bigger place to store everything you don't need
***Because there is no way you could have done this earlier

Until you have it all,
you won't be free.

The Difference

Some things we do
for other people.
Some things we do
for ourselves.

It is important
to know the difference.

Thursday, 15 April 2010

Made to be flexible

We don't allocate our bodies
the exact amount of
food and drink,
heating and clothing,
relaxing and exercise every day.

Yet most of us have a target of
exactly 8 hours sleep each night

Focus

Barry the Beaver had a vision.
He'd build the biggest dam,
any beaver had ever built.
It would benefit every creature
in the valley for years to come.

Now, for his dream to come true, he had to focus.
while the other beavers were eating, he'd be working
while the other creatures were sleeping, he'd be working.

He felt that if he wasn't working towards
improving the world, he was wasting his time.

Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish

Sitting on the side of the station
the future was floating through his mind.
A copy of 'the alchemist' sat in his satchel,
and in his thoughts, snug as a gun.

Armed with the words of God and of all great men,
Seeking out the only constant in life, truth.
Sharpening his resolve and humility with steel,
This was an adventure he was willing to die for.

Everything that Exists

It seems more and more,
everything that exists
great or humble
at least once had a
measure of passion behind it.

"There is no such thing on earth as an uninteresting subject;
the only thing that can exist is an uninterested person." -G.K.Chesterton

Report Cards

On reading my primary school report cards
There is a very clear trend in the comments.

"He's a bright boy, the only problem is
he keeps loudly laughing and singing to himself."

Sounds about right.

Thoughts

He was so hot, so tired
physically and mentally
and yet, for some reason
they kept picking on him.

Tens of tiny blood suckers,
incessantly landing on
all areas from all directions.

Their bite didn't hurt much, and
tiredness screamed for him
to stop trying to bat them away.

But he was wise and knew that
if he didn't continue to fight,
he might get an infection
or may even be sucked dry.

Focus

"I'm going to be king of the world,
Richest man you've ever seen
You'll see, one day,
100 thousand people working for me!"

"Woah really?!"

"Yeahh!
Now watch me down this pint."

Clarity

There is a reason
we don't conduct
important activities
in pitch black.

So lets whack out a flood light
watching rumours scatter
expressing how we truely feel
so that the ones we love, can see.

The Best

memories of a 7 year old.
Almost 500 pieces,
the biggest K'nex ferris wheel
that anyone I knew had ever seen,
and I had made it.

A year later, I found out
Someone had made a bigger one.

Trust

Let me seek to trust and understand
that with their information,
temperament and perspective,
they are only trying to do
what is right.

In the end,
that's all we can hope to do.

In Everything

Let me remember the debts I owe
and forget the ones I am owed.

In Theory

You can live in theory
but it can only ever be
in two dimensions.

In theory the impossible
is still impossible.

In practice...
well.

The Prayer

Kneeling there in that dingy alley
Orange street lights coloured wet tarmac.
Drizzle landing on palms, held out.
And just like that, two men,
with eyes closed and heart surrendered.
A life began beautifully changing, forever.

People Pleaser

People pleasing is when
you try to please people
with yourself.

Loving people is when
you try to please people
with themselves.

Counterfeit

You don't need to be a hero or a villain to wear a mask.

What has happened here,
that people feel that they need
to wear a mask to be accepted.

At what point did people,
feel it necessary to smile with
their teeth and not their eyes.

Who gave the word, that
we cannot be fully ourselves
every single second of the day.

I don't know how it is enforced
that we maintain proper impressions.
But I do know, a revolution is in order.

Hero

I call every week just to
remind him that I care.

When every week, I mean to tell him
that he is my hero, that I respect him
more than anyone I've ever met.

Yet, every week I chicken out because
I fear he'll think that I'm only telling him
because he's old and near his 'best before date'.

It's now that time of the week.
Today will be different.

Blast from the Past

Having just discovered
a forgotten blog from when I was 15.
I'll share some of the lines with you here.

Some questionnaire answers;
"How old do you feel = 15
hair color = i've decided its raven
Do you have any pets = dunno havn't checked in a while , its a definate mayb
What do you want to be when you grow up = historically famous scientist/inventor/discoverer"

Some original quotations;
"We have discovered everything, except how to live."
"Get lost outside the box."
"Love isn't meant to be complicated."

My sign off;
"anyway thats the end of possibly the lamest blog ever..
i'll add this rather cool sloth to make it less lame... Cool HUH?!"

Resigned Fate

Even I should not be above the law
I set for myself.

Faced with an undesirable situation,
One might accept, "I can't change this."
Instead of questioning, "How can I change this?"

In this way,
our dreams cannot be constrained
by simply the laziness of thought.

We needn't presume our fate,
for that would be playing God.

Eeyore

He wasn't a bad chap,
But certainly a sad one.

Colour was sapped from his eyes
Unconditional pessimism was all he saw.
Inside himself, he was losing himself.

I like to think, that after the books were written
He started to take himself less seriously,
Asking other animals how they were,
offering them help, and maybe even
He'd throw them a smile.

"Angels can fly because they take themselves lightly" - G.K. Chesterton

Direction

Anyone can go anywhere.
simply take the cards that life dealt them,
acquiescently ambling by,
minimizing pain.

But. "Somewhere is better than anywhere."
and it takes Someone,
to decide exactly where
Somewhere is.

Cake

Memories of a 7 year-old.
After Jonathan's Birthday dinner
there was a tense silence,
before the exuberant birthday song began.

3 Layers of Chocolate cake arrived,
topped with 8 candles and 24 cherries.
Smile, Blow, Wish and cutting it began!

"I bet I can eat more cake faster than you!"
I shouted to Jonathan, wide eyed and excited.
"Not if I can help it!" he replied.

We soon found out that I could in fact eat
more cake faster than Jonathan.
We also soon found out that I could un-eat the cake
and my dinner, even faster than that.

Pottery Barn

It seems that once you've committed
a series of eight friday nights, to attend
a very expensive set of lessons, learning
to sculpt tiny, useless, ornamental pots.

You've run out of ideas.

Treasure Hunt

Lessons from my father
In every conversation,
try to discover what makes
that person unique, different
to everyone else in the whole world.

Get inside their head, their emotions.
What do they feel and why do they act?
Life is just as much about reactions
as action.

To discover someone
is to love them,
to find them,
in the dark.

Label

I always thought it was ironic
how some guys started wearing eye-liner
listening to death metal and loving black
to display how they wouldn't be labeled,
put in a box like the rest of society,
but in doing so, they created their own label,
they're own box. emo, goth, greebo, metal head.
Becoming a market to be targetted,
with their own magazines, clothing, music channel.
I guess
You can never fully escape the labels society gives you.
You can only escape the labels you put on yourself.
