The End of the Beginning

What's past is prologue.
What's last is yours.

This could go
either way.

Short Cut

Do not cut corners
when it comes to getting to know
yourself.

Gap Yah

Yah, so this one time,
in Malaysia, I met my Grandma
called Popo
for the first time in years,
and, she looked at me as if to say
though we don't speak the same
language, you and I are deeply
and profoundly connected...

and then I just CHUNDERED EVERYWHERE!
Banter.

Archive

It's a nice thought,
that the chaotic story
of how you came into existence
is written down somewhere,
archived, to read later.
Sadly, there is no such log.

You pull up your own roots,
to find out where they've gone.

Big Apple

She has always called me,
it's not long now.

Success

Studying the most successful people
of this age, there appears
to be a common thread.

It's never how they got there,
but why.

With a burning purpose,
Bigger than what is easy
and what is hard.
Surrendering likes
and dislikes.
Surpassing distractions
and easily satisfied needs.

Logic

'But, you see..'
He said.

'There's no inspiration in logic.
There's no courage in logic.
There's not even happiness in logic.
There's only satisfaction.
The only place for logic in my life
is the realisation that the more I
am willing to do for others,
the more I shall be able to do for myself.'

Surprise

You,
are like a surprise
waiting in cupboard somewhere.

with balloons.

Holding Doors

Finding new doors
of opportunity
is important and exciting. But,

it's hard to confidently
walk through a new door,
whilst trying to hold open
old ones.

Become Today

You are today,
as you became,
yesterday.
"Inches make champions"
~ Vince Lombardi

Unique

"Hiya! ya um, can I have,
just a tiny scoop of everything
please?"

I like people
with little idiosyncrasies
so unknown, hidden
like a secret.

Vocabulary

"Hey man, you hear?
that dude Pete Atkins died."

"Really?"

"Yeeaa man."

"Total bummer."

Inside Out

Quotes:
"The Lord works from the inside out.
The world works from the outside in.

The world would take people out of the slums.
Christ takes the slums out of people,
and then they take themselves out of the slums.

The world would mold men by changing their environment.
Christ changes men, who then change their environment.

The world would shape human behavior,
but Christ can change human nature."

Ezra Taft Benson

Looking Up

On the way to work...
Tourist #1: (Looking up)
"Woah St Pauls is massive,
it's so beautiful,
you don't realise until you stand next to it
how great it really is."

Tourist #2:
"Ha, you think that is great?
wait 'till you meet who it's for."

Autograph

Sitting there, all day
signing your name
over and over,
hundreds of times,
must be the biggest ego trip ever.

Sometimes, it can get hard
to stay humble.

Security

I would't sleep in a bed
with wonky wheels
that's high on a hill
where west winds roll.

I wouldn't hold money
in Zimbabwe dollars
during hyper inflation
and civil unrest.

I wouldn't build a tree house
on the back of an old branch
that was blasted by lightning
on which giraffes occasionally graze.

Don't look for security,
a haven to hold your heart,
in something that is essentially
insecure.

Rise and Shine

I want to be a human alarm clock,
to wake up people who are sleeping through life.
So they can arise every morning,
like they meant to.

How to be Alone

Sometimes we surround ourselves
with phone calls and emails
socials and meetings.
Busyness is a
drug.

Invite
and loafe the soul,
that, which speaks in lower tones.
The kitchen table of singularity and solidarity
that sings and celebrates, busy or bored, surrounded or alone.

"I exist as I am, that is enough
If no other in the world be aware I sit content" - Walt Whitman

Geek

They can call us geeks
but we don't mind at all.

'Cos part of being a geek,
is being passionate about something.

Pragmatic Idealist

We can aim for more than happiness.

We are created
and adopted
to take an active role
in the ongoing
creation of the universe.

When I Grow Up

When I grow up
I want to be a seat
on the subway.

I'd get to support and know
a plethora of travelers
journeying through life.

Eulogy for Things Left Unsaid

Things unforgiven
Things that are lost
Memories blurred
With no way back.

People you thought you loved
Places you used to plague
Now just a memory of another life.

A new beginning.
Because forever, is never forever.

~ Robert Chiu

Exquisite

Street sounds like serene music
The smell of rain, like rich perfume
A kiss like fine wine
The sun like a soft touch
Street lights like chandeliers
The sky like the largest canvas
The word like nourishing food

Exquisite, nuanced, refined.
Without spending a penny.

City Busking

Every morning he leaves his home in a suit,
caries his case through the busy streets of Central London
until he is outside a very particular building.

Pulling out his instrument, he tunes up,
and plucks the same four notes whilst tapping his feet
twelve hours a day, every single day.

I don't yet know his name
But I know that he smiles.

Birthday

They came bearing;
cards and cakes,
parties and presents,
family texts, facebook messages,
hugs, high fives, hour long calls,
kisses and a tie from marks and spencer.

Some pretty inventive ways of saying
"Hey man,
I'm glad you were born."

Predefined

She doesn't like eating olives
but didn't know the taste.

He had was afraid of heights
after deciding when he was very small.

She could not do maths at all
because kids at school were better.

He wasn't really a 'people person'
just as he'd always thought.

We weren't born
predefined.
It's still all up for grabs.

The Comb-Over

Insecurities are like Private parts
Everyone's got them.

Yet people go to great lengths
either
to keep them concealed,
or
to make them appear to be
Amazing.

Psalm

As a blind man does not see
the intricacies of a sunset.

So too do I not see
the intricacies of your grace.

But
I
feel
it
still.

Point of View

If, in your point of view
you can only see you,
then your eyes
may be inside-out.

Because that can't
be normal.

No Unselfish Good Deed

Just because you get a kick
out of helping others,
does not make your
deeds essentially
selfish.

Find as many of these deeds
as you possibly can. For
all it means, is that
you, get a kick
out of Love.

Around in Circles

Learning does not always come
from experience.

Learning is the change made
by reflecting on experience.

Wield the Beast

I like it
when small people
get really really big dogs.

Such
brazen optimism,
Taking the tiger by the tail.

No matter how much
cleansing and washing you do, You,
will still be you.

So don't allow
a fear of dirt

Help

Some people cannot be helped

BUT

Never stop trying to help people.

Just do it.

There can be a fine line between
living and simply existing.

I've often found any doubt is removed
by living this simple,
flippant-sounding philosophy.
'Screw it, Just do it.'

"The brave may not live forever,
but the cautious do not live at all."

Outgrow your Rolemodels

I started a blog about outgrowing role models
but the truth is you can't.

No matter how much you grow,
They will always represent
that ancient call.
to know better, to be better.

Summer

Air tastes of barbecues
birds chirp through the night,
layers of clothes are shed.
Sound travels faster, as
open windows remind you
that you are not alone.

It's the time of year to fall in love
with life all over again. And also
Hayfever, sneezing, profuse sweating
and a personal awareness of the lack of toned muscles.

Looking Up

Everyone is going somewhere.

Some faster than others,
Some with noble motives,
Some travel with friends,
Some go further than others, and
Some don't know that they're
going anywhere at all.

but if we aren't careful,
we'll end up where we are going.

Her Eyes

Wide grin,
looking down at the floor
her feet bounced around
and she felt like a little girl again
as her dress swayed.

And as she laughed,
it came from more than just his
bad jokes,
more than
the jovial mood she found herself in.

She was allowing him to discover
her uniqueness, from everyone else in the world.
without a thought, she looked up
and there it was, everything she felt.
Held all in her eyes.

Know Better

Have you ever felt,
No matter how much
you know that 1 + 1 = 2,
you occasionally find yourself
living like it's not.

The wisest words
that man has ever discovered
have been learnt
the hard way.

Here's to...

Here's to all the people
who pass us in the street
we're nothing to each other,
except for that moment, brief.

Here's to all the plans,
the schemes and the dreams
that are just as fun to live,
as they were to conceive.

Here's to nostalgia
and everything we've learnt,
for all the things we tried and failed
for all the trust we earned.

Here's to the days
the ones when we fear the worst
we slap ourselves and carry on
keeping the hunger, keep the thirst.

Here's to that feeling
that we're travelling the right road
or when we know such joy,
and feel ready to explode.

And of course, It's come the time, to say
I'd like to take this chance,
"Here's to you, and you alone

and so, tonight, we dance."

It can actually be one of
the funnest things

The Secret

The day you were born, you
were endowed with nothing,
if not pure potential.
The secret is that,

every day of your life
represents nothing,
if not the opportunity
to use that potential
however you choose.

But ultimately
how far you go
doesn't matter.
It's where you end up.

Moving Fast

Deciding
that she could be
the most important person
will have you
holding off the physical side
for those few important months.

Growing,
moving faster and deeper in knowledge
and love of each other, collecting those
sacred moments when your hearts
grow together first, while others,
too busy
moving fast to the bedroom,
wake up a couple years later
next to a half stranger.

Memories

Frank the yellow fish
had a short memory.
he loved the ocean,
swimming to new places
new corals, new friends.

At the end of every day,
he'd remind himself.

When these memory fade away,
make sure that they are replaced.

The End

At the end of their time,
No one will ever say:

"I wish I'd spent more time
shopping for shoes on eBay." or
"I'm glad I chose my friends
based on looks and popularity."

At the end of your time,
what will you say?
