the dry texture of coarse braided string
and the soft flick of lace.
Hands tug each side
and begin to dance.
Over and under
Round and through
the best knots
are doubled and pulled tight
as time passes the tangle gets shaken and tugged
the string becomes wet and frayed
Some laces become undone
Some get tighter. More as one.
it takes two hands to make and maintain a sturdy knot
it only takes one to pull the whole thing apart.
